We Found Out if Homeowners Get Paid to Be on HGTV’s ‘Love It or List It’

We Found Out if Homeowners Get Paid to Be on HGTV’s ‘Love It or List It’

Love It or List It has been a fixture on HGTV since 2008, so it makes sense that during that time you’ve dreamed appearing on the show yourself. The reality show, led by interior designer Hilary Farr and real estate agent David Visentin, helps homeowners decide between staying in their current home and moving to a new house.

The show’s Instagram account posted back in April that they’re casting for future episodes, so now’s the time to apply! While the show has filmed in North Carolina in the past, they’re back in Canada and looking for applicants in the Greater Toronto Area.

To be considered for the show, you simply need to fill out their application. Take note that it is fairly extensive. You’ll be required to answer 35 questions, including basic information about your family and details about your current home, and you’ll have to submit photos of each room and a video tour.

If you’re like many viewers, you might be wondering if you do get selected to be on the show, will you get paid!

Do Homeowners Get Paid to Be on Love It or List It?

To put it simply, no. While HGTV doesn’t specifically address payment in their application, they do note that homeowners now must have a $100,000 renovation budget (this requirement was previously $50,000 and then $75,000). So we assume that means participants are not in this for the paycheck!

Other rules include homeowners must “Be willing to move out of your house for the duration of the renovation/shoot” and “be outgoing, fun, enthusiastic homeowners and available to be on camera for up to seven weekdays of filming (staggered over 6 to 8 weeks).”

If you’re still interested, get started on that application! We might just see you on the next season.
