What You Need to Consider Before Choosing Roofs for Verandahs and Pools

You are lucky if you have both verandah and swimming pool in your house. You can flaunt them to your neighbors and guests, and be proud to have such feature. However, time comes when you avoid them using, especially in unfavorable weather conditions. So, what’s the use of having such features when you are unable to use it to the fullest? Roofing verandahs and pools can really help a lot. It can provide you enough shade and protection from sun, rain and many other unwanted elements. But, how to choose the best of them is a big question. Well, it is not tough at all because what you need to keep in mind is the suitability of chosen material into in your set of requirements.

Choosing Roof Material

For roofing there are two popular materials – steel and polycarbonate. While steel provide easy matching and cooling option, polycarbonate keeps off harmful UV rays. But that shouldn’t be only parameter of choosing roofing material, because there are also other factors that determine their suitability. For instance, polycarbonate provides the advantage of allowing light to enter. Conversely this can be a disadvantage in summers as it will cause more heat. Steel on the other is compact which doesn’t allow light to enter, causing darkness then keeping the environment cool. Colorbond is a popular steel roofing material which is easier to install, lasts long, light weighted and is resistant to weather. However, mixing both of them can be practically a good idea to take the benefit of both the material.

Choosing Roofing Style

You have a lot many options for the shape of the roof. Choose flat, gabled, or hips, each of them are designed and shaped to add a touch of beauty. Still, it would be better if you choose one that complements your home exterior design or existing roof structure. Ideally, it shouldn’t be very tough but if you really feel so then hiring a designer will be a good idea. The objective is to make verandah or pool covers match with the rest of the house structure that shouldn’t look odd in anyway. While trying to complement roof with your house don’t forget to consider color and style of the house. These factors too affect the overall look of the house.

Choosing Verandah Drain System

Whether it is verandah roof or pool covers, you need to install a good drain system. Also, it is necessary that it is separate from the home’s main drain system. This is because the existing drain system might not be able to take the load of additional rain water accumulated from your extended roof. This might also cause leak in the roof or wall, leading to damage in the structure. Install a standard down pipe, but make sure it is not too close to the foundation of the house. While choosing drain pipes to be attached horizontally with the roof, opt for U-shape pipes protected with a mesh so that debris and other unwanted material don’t accumulate in the drain and cause blockage.
